An integrated circuit is a set of electronic circuits embedded on one small flat piece (or "chip") of semiconductor material, usually silicon.

Integrated circuits (ICs) can be classified into analog, digital and mixed signal, consisting of analog and digital signalling on the same IC.

EPROM - Erasable Programmable Read Only Memory
EPROMs can be programmed and erased enabling them to be re-used. Erasure is accomplished using an UV (Ultra Violet) light source that shines through a quartz erasing window in the EPROM package.

One common class of EPROM are the 2700 series produced by many manufactures in the 80s and 90s and now available mainly on eBay. They are in use in a lot of vintage computers, game systems and cartridges. The number at the end of the EPROM code (usually) represents the number of kb available in the package. They come in Dual Inline Package (DIP) or Plastic Leaded Chip Carrier (PLCC) formats.
