Command words demystified
Teachers love telling people what to do. They love giving them commands. Exam-boards are the same although the commands that they give people tend to be written down. The meaning of command terms varies depending on who you speak to (which still remains a mystery to me) but here is a list of the most common ones with an attempt to demystify them.

Add

Join something to something else so as to increase the size, number, amount or value.
Example
"Add 20% to the total bill to account for the VAT."

State

Express, in clear terms, a single piece of information or fact that you have learnt.
Example
"State the charge on an electron."
